The loft building is 45' square with 20' side yards and stands about thirty five feet up off the street to line up with the cornices of adjacent buildings and to let adequate light in under the building so forest, field and garden may grow. It has zero impervious surface with a roof garden and park below where a subsurface cistern for water saving & rock pit are located for grey water use and storm water control respectively. It is a green concrete frame clad with operable windows that are a minimalist type butt glazed window system. The upper levels are accessed by stairs to keep the occupants healthy by a good hearty walk like old six floor walkups.
It does have a real wood burning fireplaces and internal stairs with 20' floor to floor heights. There are no internal columns and artists are fee to add mezzanine type lofts and internal curtains, blinds, graphics, screens, etc... for light control, privacy and artistic expression. The park below is civic space and belongs to the community yet is kept up by the occupants as their responsibility and investment in the community. Sidewalks are brick, vehicular access is from the alley.
